Description

The 1st workshop on Interdisciplinary Approaches to Protein Structure-Function is to be held in the School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield on the 25th-26th of September 2014. The workshop aims to introduce junior researchers to an array of effective and/or innovative methodologies in probing the structure-function relationship of proteins. The workshop premiers with a strong biophysical theme, bringing together experts in structure/function genomics, molecular dynamics, solid state NMR, X-ray crystallography and oriented circular dichroism. Industry scientists will further contribute to this workshop by providing information on crystallisation microseeding (Douglas Instruments), SAXS (Bruker) and Microscale Tthermophoresis (NanoTemper Technologies GmbH).
Day one will include a series of talks offered by experts and our industry sponsors. Day two will conclude the workshop with talks/closing remarks and the afternoon section will be offered to the participants for analysing protein samples thermophoretically, should they wish to attempt using the methodology to define potential protein-protein interactions. Please note that the maximum number of samples that can be analysed is six. We would be grateful if participants declared their interest in bringing protein samples for thermophoretic analysis when registering for the workshop. The samples will be chosen on a first-come-first-served basis. Once admitted to the workshop, participants may contact Dr James Wilkinson ([email protected]) for advice on experimental planning and instructions on sample preparation. Alternatively, participants may be offered a guided tour to our Bruker Centre of Excellence for X-ray Crystallography.

In addition, all participating junior scientists are required to present a poster. Attendance is limited to 50 participants, selected on the basis of their application.
• Selected applicants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. Registration fee packages are listed below.
• Upon registration applicants should submit poster abstracts to [email protected].
On the basis of this submission, 3-5 junior scientists may be invited to introduce their research with a 10 minute talk.
