Description

Organised the session "LAL SIG Symposium: Towards a model of language assessment literacy"

The LALSIG is delighted to host its first symposium. It is not the first one to be held on the topic of language assessment literacy (LAL). The first symposium was held in 2011 at the 33rd LTRC. In the intervening decade, a large range of projects on LAL have been undertaken. A number of online resources have been created with the aim of developing the assessment literacy of teachers in particular. There is now an opportunity to reflect on these projects and to consider the theoretical underpinnings of LAL. The presenters in the symposium will push us to reconsider the boundaries and possibilities of LAL as a concept from a number of different perspectives, in order to stimulate conversations on future work. The first paper will draw on the field of professional competency development. A second paper engages in an emic exploration of the construct of LAL with a focus on language pedagogy. The third paper will present an argument for a complex multifaceted language assessment literacies construct. Our final paper will present a conceptual model of LAL development. Our discussant will engage in the ambitious task of drawing together the threads of these presentations, directing our attention to the complementarity of all this work, and encouraging us all to continue our reflections
