Comparisons of Practical Active Controls of Solid-axle Wheelset and Independently-rotating Wheel-pair

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

A solid-axle wheelset and an independently-rotating wheel-pair have distinct dynamic behaviors due to their physical configurations. To improve dynamic performance in curve negotiation and stability, active control strategies can be very effective solutions for both systems. Different control approaches need to be applied to the solid-axle wheelset and independently-rotating wheel-pair respectively. Several practical active solutions for solid-axle wheelset and independently-rotating wheel-pair are discussed in this paper associated with the simulation results, focused upon application to a two-axle vehicle. Even though different types of control methods need to be applied for these systems, the solid-axle wheelset and independently-rotating wheel-pair are both able to demonstrate very similar ‘perfect-curving’ performances with good stabilities.
