Description
Advances in artificial intelligence have greatly expanded the ability to generate large volumes of realistic and persuasive content that can be used to promote specific ideological narratives.
While these tools have many legitimate applications, they are increasingly being exploited by individuals and groups aiming to spread disinformation and encourage harmful beliefs.
AI enables such actors to craft content that appears credible and authentic, thereby enhancing their ability to attract followers and lend legitimacy to harmful ideologies.
This talk examines how AI-generated content can contribute to the process of radicalisation by shaping users' perceptions of truth and reinforcing harmful and discriminatory worldviews.
The ease and scale with which such content can be produced raises urgent concerns about the role of AI in facilitating online radicalisation.
