Giving Voice to Emotion: The Alba Method of Emotion and Text

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Practitioners of Alba have developed exercises that help the actor to explore the emotional aspects of a character in a controlled manner which can lead to very useful discoveries. The author will provide a brief description of how the Alba Method is used to create pure emotional states using the breath, facial expression, and physical postural attitude. It will then use video of actors performing a specific monologue-based exercise to explain how training in the Alba Method can be an effective addition to the actors’ toolkit by giving voice to their characters’ emotions.
