Description

Grain boundaries are pathways for increased levels of ion diffusion in stoichiometric, fluorite-structured oxides. This has been reported for both oxygen and cations and also a range of impurity species. In this study, we have used atomic scale simulations to charaterise this enhanced diffusion in several oxides of the form MO2, M=U, Th, Pu, Ce.
