Description
Stewart Jackson was introduced to the possibilities of photography while studying at Wakefield Art College. These first tentative steps led to a career in photography and he has received multiple awards for his abstract and figurative landscape, still life, and portrait photographs. Stewart’s close attachment to the area he grew up in, and now lives, is reflected in the photographs he makes. Locations from around Wakefield often feature in projects exploring place and the implied narratives found in natural and artificial landscapes. All encompassing an overarching love for the drama and beauty of natural light. However, these photographs rarely feature archetypal landmarks or the picturesque. Stewart’s work is influenced by the sublime and he presents a sense of emotional drama and captures the loneliness and fragility of his subjects. The carefully composed images are often mysterious and could easily be metaphors for the interior landscape of feelings and emotions.Period | 19 Sep 2018 |
