Interactive Software as a Means of Researching the Creative Process in Free Improvisation

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

This presentation examines how interactive software can be used to research and better understand free improvisation, drawing on case studies that span performance practice, collaborative composition, and multicultural instrumental traditions. Using tools such as TIAALS, we demonstrate how technology can map, visualise, and analyse improvisatory processes, revealing patterns in communication, gesture, and decision-making that often remain invisible in real time. The research shows how these technological approaches can both document and expand the creative possibilities of free improvisation across diverse cultural and musical contexts.
