Description
The human element/factor of a lean programme, challenging to appreciate, determines the 'success/failure' of such a programme. A course of action concerning lean training and reinforcement strategies remains an under-researched area. The research used a qualitative data set of 27 semi-structured in-depth interviews with members of lean teams across five UK service organisations to explore lean training reinforcement. The analysis suggests that lean training programmes should focus on a lean trainee's behaviour and reinforcement strategies more than the content of such programmes. The case study organisations generally promoted lean desired behaviour through performance indicators and rewards. While the interviewees thought the performance indicators were superficial, they also thought the rewards were insufficient to meet their expectations. This study advances the concept of lean training reinforcement, which states that a lean trainee's learning behaviour is only repeated if it results in a positive outcome that satisfies the lean trainee's stated or unstated expectations.Period | 3 Jul 2023 |
