Diabetic macular oedema (DMO) is a major cause of ophthalmic morbidity worldwide in the working-age population. The introduction of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents has revolutionised the management of diabetic macular oedema after many positive randomised clinical trials (RCTs). However, real-world evidence on the long-term efficacy and safety of anti-VEGF therapy, particularly within the South Asian demographic, remains less comprehensively documented. Several studies from a recent literature review discussed real-world results, but none of them disclosed the participants' racial background. This gap in the literature highlights a critical need for studies focusing on specific ethnic populations to bridge the under-representation. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the long-term anti-VEGF therapy outcomes in South Asian patients with diabetic macular oedema in a real-world clinical setting.
