Low Cost Improvements to Container Wagons - Investigating the use of a variable rate spring in the vertical primary suspension of Y series bogies

Description

The work presented investigate methods to improve the dynamic performance of container wagons which can have poor ride quality and susceptibility to derailment when partially laden. The solution it to use a progressive spring in the primary suspension to replace the existing standard 'tare' sping. This improves damping ratio for the partially laden cases.
