Description
This session will explore some of the ‘narratives of vulnerability’ that emerge in contemporary stories told about ‘the refugee’ and look in more detail at the UK Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement Programme (SVPRP). In stark contrast to the existing asylum provision, the SVPRP exemplifies the latest hierarchy of rights and entitlements to emerge for refugees. Narrowing the protection space for refugees, ‘the vulnerable’ have become a marker for the brave new world of refugee policy.
