Performing ‘real’ Magick : The themes and performance of bizarre magic(k)

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

Join us for a talk and discussion with Dr Nik Taylor, academic, performer, and editor of The Journal of Performance Magic. Nik’s work explores the idea that to truly understand magic, one must also perform it. Based at the University of Huddersfield, he combines scholarly research with practical performance, with particular interests in Bizarre Magick, sideshow, historical deceptions, persona, and the relationship between magician and audience. In this session, Nik will talk about his work, how his thesis developed, and how performance and research continue to inform one another, before opening the floor for questions and discussion.
