The Need for Mindfulness: Actors Describe Attention and Awareness

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

Description

Drawing from the Survey of the Actor’s Experience to discuss awareness and attention and how actors describe the ways in which they experience life on stage and the need to always be present, this paper explores actor awareness of the performance itself as well as looking at how they view their relation to and with the audience and how the audience fits into their world view. Simply put, using their own words, I examine how an actor can “be the character” and still be aware of what is going on around them as the actor, such as standing in their light, dealing with props that break, and of course, other actors.
