Description
This presentation reconsiders the death metal band Cannibal Corpse through the lens of cartoons and humour, situating their violent aesthetics within broader popular culture traditions. We argue that Cannibal Corpse’s music and lyrics, while seemingly grotesque and controversial, can be understood as part of a tradition of exaggerated, playful violence, much like that found in cartoons, horror parodies, and children's rhymes.
