Traversing with Strangers and Negotiating the Unknown: Reflections of an Early Career Researcher Road Tripping through Academia

Activity: Talk or presentation typesInvited talk

Description

Navigating the world of academia as an early career research (ECR), during and post-PhD, is a challenging yet crucial time. Through an account of my lived experience as an ECR, I reflect on the tensions, conflicts and contradictions, and possibilities and successes encountered in my journey so far. I provide experiential insights into the trials and tribulations of the academic publication journey – choosing target journals, publishing books, navigating the ‘revisions’ processes, and promoting research after publication – the multiple spaces and forms of ‘rejection’; and embracing the joy and possibilities that can emerge from networking at conferences, on social media, and in other collaborative and critical spaces. Finally, I ponder about the roads yet travelled, and those yet known, as I continue my academic journey as an ECR and beyond.
