Unusual Ingredients: Reflections on creating a cross-modal musical-culinary

Activity: Talk or presentation typesOral presentation

    Description

Our proposed presentation is located within the areas of new music composition and crossmodality. We are particularly interested with how music can connect with other art forms and sensory experiences to create new meanings and emotional experiences. Our work (under the project ‘Unusual ingredients’) explores the relationships between sound and food using theory and literature from gastrophysics and neuroscience that outlines the potential for these principles to be used within creative settings and new music. Our principal thesis is to adapt aspects of ecological theory and to combine this with current research into 4E cognition in order to provide a taxonomy of creative approaches towards gustatory-auditory crossmodality. The intention is that this taxonomy will provide new knowledge and understanding for any artists and researchers studying or creating within the area of sensory studies, new music and crossmodality.
