Description

Young children need to be able to access the outdoors both at home and in day-care and educational settings. White (2008) suggests that when given the choice, the outdoors is where most children want to be. The outdoors offers a perfect companion to provision indoors, working in harmony and providing a complimentary environment that enhances and extends children’s learning and development (Maynard and Walter, 2007). The places where children learn help them make connections between their experiences and the world around them in a meaningful context.
