This documentary captures highlights from the Accra, Ghana, Stakeholder Engagement and Dissemination Workshop focused on advancing dementia care and support across Ghana. Bringing together healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, policymakers and policy actors, family caregivers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community and faith leaders, media representatives, and other key stakeholders, the event provided a valuable platform for meaningful dialogue on the growing impact of dementia and the need for coordinated, culturally appropriate responses.
The workshop showcased findings from ongoing dementia research in Ghana, highlighted the lived experiences of people living with dementia and their families, and encouraged discussions on practical approaches to enhancing awareness, early diagnosis, care and support services, and broader health system responses. Participants explored opportunities for strengthening collaboration between healthcare institutions, universities, government agencies, civil society organisations, and local communities to help build a more inclusive and sustainable dementia care landscape in Ghana. This work forms part of a wider programme of dementia research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange led by Dr Precious Adade Duodu (@PreciousAdadeDuodu ), Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing and International Lead for the Department of Nursing at the University of Huddersfield, UK (@hudduni ), Visiting Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and Principal Investigator of the UK-Ghana Dementia Research Collaboration. Working alongside an international and multidisciplinary network of academic, clinical, and policy partners, the programme is committed to improving outcomes for older adults living with dementia and supporting their families and caregivers. We extend our sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, participants, partner institutions, and supporters whose engagement and contributions continue to strengthen dementia awareness, research, policy development, and care provision in Ghana and beyond.
