New international research shows that men emit more carbon than women, due to higher consumption levels and a tendency to be less concerned about environmental issues.

"There is now a great deal of research showing the clear negative impact of certain male behaviors on the environment and climate," said Jeff Hearn, professor of sociology at the University of Huddersfield (UK). "Surprisingly, this aspect is almost completely absent from discussions and policies on sustainable development."
