Abbey started her nursing career as a student at the University of Huddersfield in 2003. After qualifying as a registered nurse in 2006 Abbey worked briefly in residence based elderly care before moving into Critical Care in 2007.
During her time as a registered nurse in critical care Abbey completed a number of professional qualifications alongside a BSc (hons) in Critical Care. She was promoted to sister in critical care in 2014, a position she continued to work in until 2019.
In 2018 Abbey started working with the University of Huddersfield alongside her clinical post as a Lecturer Practitioner in Critical Care. Abbey started as a full time Lecturer in Adult Nursing in 2019. She holds a PgCert in Health Professional Education, a PgCert in End of Life Care, and an MSc in Health Studies. She is a registered NMC teacher and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Abbey is the course lead for the PgCert Critical Care, PgCert Acute Care and PgCert Emergency Care here at the university.
