Biography

Abdul joined the University of Huddersfield Business School in 2001. In his previous role Abdull was a programmer working on Content Management Systems for the BUBL information service at the University of Strathclyde. Currently, Abdul is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Transformation with a focus on Data Analytics, Visualisation, Internet of Things, Big Data and the Blockchain. In addition to this Abdul is also the course leader for Business Data Analytics, and head of the Digital Transformation research cluster.. Abdul  has been instrumental in driving forward and contributing to a programme of University wide strategic development. In addition to his teaching Abdul maintains an online Blog which outlines his current research and academic interests, this can be found at https://researcholic.wordpress.com/.

While working in UK Higher Education Abdul has accumulated over 20 years of academic experience, this includes, course design, course development, assessment, moderation, and feedback. This complements his technical skills where Abdul's background is very much in software design and online development. He has a BA (Hons) In Interactive Media and a MSc in Internet Application Development and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He completed his PhD in Business Management at the University of Huddersfield in 2015.

Research Expertise and Interests

Abdul has worked on a wide range of internally and externally funded projects. His research ranges from disruptive technologies (Blockchain, Smart contracts, Big Data) to higher educational research (Organisational behavior, consumerisation and managerialism)

Abdul is currently working on research with a focus on authenticity and accuracy through the implementation and use of Blockchain within supply chain systems. This is a relatively new area which looks at how new upcoming disruptive elements can change the way organisations view data storage and the services they provide. His main research work at the moment revolves around the following:

  • Blockchain and supply chain
  • Smart contracts
  • Online security and fraud
  • Social Media Influence
  • Big Data Analytics

In addition, Abdul has worked on and been successful in applying for and obtaining Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with local companies. He is no stranger to conferences having delivered papers at multiple venues within his research areas and is currently looking for collaboration opportunities. Abdul also works with ex alumni in developing student projects. Abdul does a lot of work with Zurleys.co.uk and 1stMobility on student projects helping them develop their data analytic processes and providing students with valuable experience. 

In this current role Abdul has published in multiple star rated journals (3* onwards) and has successfully published his research as book chapters and delivered multiple conference papers. In addition, Abdul has a very comprehensive enterprise development strategy, from which he has been successful in obtaining over £60,000 worth of funding.
