Andrea Varsori has been a staff member in Criminology at the University of Huddersfield since January 2021, first as Lecturer and then (since 2023) as Senior Lecturer. Since November 2023, he is also Deputy Director of the Applied Criminology and Policing Centre. Since 2019, he has been Co-Coordinator of the Urban Violence Research Network, which encompasses more than 300 scholars from 100+ countries, all working on urban violence and related topics. He holds a PhD in War Studies from King’s College London: in his thesis, he proposed an explanation of the resilience of gangs in Rio de Janeiro by using a novel and transdisciplinary ecological/evolutionary framework. His research seeks to explain the survival and success of urban armed groups and the strategic reasons for their use of violence.
