Biography

Andrew Johnston is currently Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Huddersfield. An Economist by training, Professor Johnston’s research interests focus on the inter-related processes of innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly the influence of location and space.

 

Professor Johnston has published his research in these areas in journals such as Regional Studies, Industry and Innovation, Technovation, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, the Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy, and Society, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, and Environment and The Journal of Technology Transfer. His work is widely read and currently has over 3000 citations on Google Scholar (H Index = 23).

 

An experienced and accomplished educator, he has over 20 years of experience in terms of teaching in the HE sector across many subjects including entrepreneurship, strategy, international business, and economics. His teaching ethos is underpinned by a desire to inspire and enthuse students about subjects through using a theoretically informed approach that has a clear empirical focus. Professor Johnston is also an experienced Doctoral Supervisor, with 10 completions. He is also currently Deputy Director of Graduate Education with responsibility for doctoral recruitment and leading the DBA programme as well as the Coordinator for the Business and Management Unit of Assessment for REF 2029.
