Biography

I joined the University in September 2018 to support the development of the learning disability nursing course and to pursue my interest in developing inclusive research with people who have a learning disability which will form the basis of my Doctoral studies.

Prior to this, I worked at the University of Salford as programme lead for the integrated learning disability nursing and social work course - which I had previously graduated from in 2003. My work at Salford included a clear focus on partnership working with people who have a learning disability in all aspects of course recruitment, development, teaching and assessment and I am keen to develop this emphasis in my current role and within my research.

After qualifying, I worked in a range of community learning disability services in both Leeds and Greater Manchester as a nurse supporting the health and behaviour needs of people who have a learning disability and latterly as an autism specialist nurse supporting people both who have a learning disability and those who do not.
