Biography

David has held Chairs at several Universities including Glasgow, Bradford, Northumbria, CERAM,  Liverpool Hope, Essex and York St John and Visiting Professorships at Lancaster, Liverpool Hope, West of England, Bolton, Rennes, Lincoln, Prince Hassan bin Mohammed University, Dubai and Hull Universities. He set up the first Part time MBA in a UK University at Glasgow and built up a wide portfolio of small business programmes there. He developed and led in-company and partnership MBAs with the BBC, Rolls Royce, Emirates Airlines and off campus MBAs in UAE, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, India . At Bradford he raised funding for several externally-funded Chairs including with the Institute of Credit Management, Heinz Corporation, Ford Motor Company and SABIC. He was a Founder Member of BAM the British Academy of Management where he has co-led the Organisational Studies track for fourteen years,  He has been a member of the RAE panel for Business and Management, and member and Chair of committees of SERC, ESRC, the Council of  CNAA, and Chair of the Teaching Company Management Committee of SERC. He has undertaken consultancy with many leading organisations, including Babcock Power, Accenture, Arthur Andersen, Emerald Publishing, the Police Federation, Cambridge Muslim College, the Palestinian Authority, and the Sheikh Khalifa Government Excellence Program in the UAE He has researched and published extensively and is a regular presenter at major international and regional conferences. He was a co-winner of the Halloran Prize of the Academy of Management and had several Best in Track awards there and in other conferences He was a Director of Gulliver Foods and Alpine Double Glazing, and of the Committee of Inquiry into the Engineering Profession, and chair of one of the Sub committees of the CIEP, and co-author of the Finniston Report. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Leadership Trust. He founded the European Management Journal and the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management. He was an Arbitrator for the Milk and Dairy industry in Scotland and chaired the Skimmed Milk Arbitration panel as sole arbitrator.. He was chair of Springboard Lanark, and a governor of Bradford Grammar School and the Dixon’s Academy, Bradford. He went to school in Bradford, lives in Yorkshire, represented Yorkshire in the 440 yards at the All England Schools Athletic Championships, and is a life long supporter of Leeds United FC. In Bradford’s Centenary Year as a city he was nominated by the City Council as one of Bradford’s “100 people of 100 years”. He is a Burgess (Freeman) of the City of Glasgow. He is a published poet  published in Viral Verses, 2020and was informal poet in residence for several years at a folk and Irish venue.
