I currently teach on the BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care. I adopt a student-centred approach to learning and elicit the responses of students following every session in order to meet the needs of the students. I have been responsible for the dissertation module. Six weeks of delivery regarding what is expected within the assignment are delivered and then students are expected to proceed on an individual basis. A past cohort of students asked me to develop a timetable which meant that each section of their dissertation would be ready for a specific time. As we developed this time frame together, students also benefitted from bringing each section to class and having their peers formatively assess their work. Students acknowledged that the process of looking at other people’s work assisted them in developing their own ideas and gave them more insight into what made a ‘good’ piece of work. I am also personal tutor to students from each year group and module tutor for the subjects for which I am responsible.
