Biography

Devendra Raj Singh completed an MSc in Health Promotion and Public Health from Canterbury Christ Church University, UK, a Master of Arts in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from Purbanchal University, Nepal.

Devendra is a Doctoral Researcher at the School of Human and Health Sciences, University of Huddersfield. His doctoral research focuses on co-designing initiatives to enhance the uptake and delivery of maternal and newborn health services in Nepal. In addition to his research, Devendra contributes to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the school.

Currently, Devendra is involved in a project that explores women’s experiences and perceptions of male partner/spouse involvement in maternal health services among the Asian and Asian British populations in West Yorkshire. He has recently completed research projects on the mental health experiences and coping strategies of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic children and young people in West Yorkshire, as well as improving the health and well-being of homeless individuals through better access to health and social care services in the same region, funded by the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. Additionally, he has completed a project focused on developing nurses’ and midwives’ leadership through a quality improvement initiative funded by the Burdett Trust and THET Partnerships for Global Health, UK.

Before joining the University of Huddersfield, Devendra served as a Lecturer in Public Health (2013-2016) and later as Senior Lecturer in Public Health and Head of the Public Health Department (2017-2021) at the Asian College for Advanced Studies, Purbanchal University in Nepal (2015-2021). He was also a founding national executive member of the Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition in Nepal (2014-2019). His career has been focused on multidisciplinary research in public health and nutrition, health services, and co-production research.

In Nepal, Devendra received a faculty research grant (2020) from the University Grants Commission of Nepal for his randomised controlled trial on the effectiveness of a dietitian-led approach to managing diabetes (DIAM-D) in a tertiary care hospital. Additionally, he serves as a visiting faculty member at the Department of Public Health at the Central Institute of Science and Technology, Pokhara University, Nepal. In 2022, Devendra was awarded the UK Turing Scheme grant for a learning exchange as a visiting research fellow at the Australian National University in Australia.
