Before joining the University of Huddersfield as a Research Fellow, Egena was a Lecturer at Benue State University Nigeria (since 2009) and American University of Nigeria (2008 - 2009). He obtained his first degree in Business Administration (distinction) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Nigeria. Egena holds an MSc in Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship from Newcastle University, UK and a PhD in Business and Management from the University of Manchester. Egena’s Doctoral research focused on how financial service firms in developing countries incorporate the user into their innovation and value creation processes. Specifically, his research examined how knowledge management capability, relational capability, and innovation capability enhance user involvement and value creation in financial service firms. Egena is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and currently an Associate Fellow of the Advance HE (HEA). He has participated in different multidisciplinary research projects in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. One of the projects was hosted by the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIOIR). The project investigated the challenges and opportunities of new technologies and digitisation in Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Also during his PhD, Egena participated in a research placement with Arts Methods Manchester First-Generation PhD Project
He has served as a member of different committees for the development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In 2013, Egena won the Young Managers Competition in Nigeria. The research competition was sponsored by the Nigerian Institute of Management and Airtel Nigeria. Egena has over a decade of experience in higher education institutions. Prior to joining the University of Huddersfield, he has worked across 3 universities in Nigeria and UK (American University of Nigeria, Benue State University, and The University of Manchester) as well as being a visiting lecturer at the University of Mkar, Nigeria.
Egena’s research focus is on knowledge management, innovation and entrepreneurship in SMEs using both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
