Biography

Dr ERTUgrul UNVER (BSc, MSc, PhD, PgCert, Associate Professor): Principal Enterprise Fellow in 3D & Product Design.

Dr Unver is a Principal Fellow at the University of Huddersfield. He has an extensive commercial experience worked in industry in the UK and overseas. He worked as an Industrial Designer & CAD/CAM manager where he designed several consumer products including laptops, mobile phones, monitors, security & monitoring devices between 1995-1999. He then was appointed as Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield, teaching on BA/BSc Product Design, BSc Industrial Design and BA Transport Design courses. He was course leader for BA Industrial Design, MA 3D Digital Design, BA/BSc Product Design courses.

Dr Unver has 10 years industrial and over 20 years of academic experience in Research and Development particularly Design for Manufacturing including, machine tools, manufacturing technologies (turning, milling, grinding, CNC, CAD/CAM, machinery design, press, forging steelwork machinery, moulding design. He has a degree in the BSc Mechanical Engineering in 1986, completed his MSc Master in 1989 on Industrial Design & Computer Programming. Dr Unver has worked as a Research Assistant, a Lecturer in Turkey. After completing his PhD, he became Assistant Professor at the University of Cukurova, Turkey in 1994. In 2013, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor by the Higher Education Authority of Turkey (YOK). Recently, he has been appointed as a Principal Enterprise Fellow (Reader/Professor) at the University of Huddersfield, School of Art, Design and Architecture, Department of Architecture and 3D Design.

He has been a member of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA (2013-) and was a member of the Institution of Engineering Design (AIED), (2013-2015). He has published over 120 research articles, delivered many keynote speeches, run several Innovate UK, EU funded projects, won several awards particularly for his patented design of Scalp cooling cap with Paxman Coolers. He is also in the Editorial Board of the Design Journal. His current research interest is on Mass Customisation, Medical Product Development, application of AR/VR for Industrial Design, anthropometric & ergonomics analysis and 3D simulation.
