Olaide Felix Olabode is a Research Fellow at the Engineering Control and Machine Performance Group (ECMPG) of the University’s Centre for Precision Technologies. Felix’s research and teaching focus on machine tool metrology and manufacturing systems automation.
Felix obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. For his final year project, he created a software for estimating hydropower plant output. He then worked as a Design Engineer in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria for three years. He proceeded to Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, where he obtained a Master of Science in Engineering degree in Mechatronics (Cum Laude/Distinction). He was awarded multiple scholarships and he created a method for estimating biofuel moisture content using hyperspectral data. During this time in Tallinn, Felix worked in an automation company and also served in the University’s Nanosatellite group (Optics team).
Felix joined the ECMPG for his PhD under the supervision of Dr Simon Fletcher and Prof Andrew Longstaff. His research focused on precision core temperature measurement using ultrasound for different manufacturing processes. During his PhD study, Felix won the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (Euspen) scholarship. This was given for the contribution of his work to the field of precision engineering.
After his PhD, Felix took a research role within the group and is continuing his work on machine tool accuracy improvement. Working with members of the ECMPG research team and other industrial and academic partners, Felix leads a work package in the Advanced Machinery and Productivity Institute (AMPI) project. The work package aims to create the needed framework for cyber-physical interoperability of machines and subsystems needed to manufacture tomorrow’s products. Felix also teaches masters and undergraduate modules including Manufacturing systems automation and Production control systems.
Felix is a member of the UKRI Talent Peer Review College, a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a member of the IET.
