Dr. Geetanjali Das is a civil engineer with expertise in soil stabilization through physical, chemical, and biological techniques. She is a Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Huddersfield, UK.
Dr. Das obtained her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Sikkim Manipal University, India, and later pursued her master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India, during which her research focused on evaluating the shrinkage and swelling behaviour of expansive soil.
From 2017 to 2018, she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, India, teaching full-time.
In 2021, Dr. Das earned her PhD in Civil Engineering from the École Centrale de Nantes in France. Her PhD was CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche) PhD. This allowed her to conduct research at Université Gustave Eiffel’s Nantes campus and simultaneously work as a research engineer at Lhoist, a leader in lime and limestone production. Her PhD research, primarily focused on lime-treated soils, had significant real-world applications in geotechnical infrastructure such as embankments and other hydraulic structures. During her PhD, Dr. Das designed a novel device to reproduce the field atmospheric condition at a laboratory-scale to evaluate the long-term performance of treated soil, which is published as a European Patent.
In 2022, Dr. Das joined University College Dublin as an iCRAG Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where she worked on bio-cementation methods for enhancing the geotechnical properties of carbonate-bearing sands, with potential applications in coastal construction and erosion prevention. This project was in collaboration with various institutions, including Georgia Tech University, Arizona State University, University of California, Davis, and Queens University Belfast.
Currently, Dr. Das’s research is focused on exploring sustainable soil stabilization techniques, aiming to balance carbon emission reduction with effective soil treatment. Her interdisciplinary work extends beyond conventional geotechnical methods to include physicochemical and microstructural analyses.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
