Biography
George Bargiannis (publishing as George Baryannis) is Subject Area Leader for Computing and Information Systems at the School of Computing & Engineering and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. He joined the University of Huddersfield as Research Assistant in 2015 and served subsequently as Research Fellow and Lecturer.
George received a DiplEng in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, Greece in 2006 and a MSc and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Crete, Greece in 2009 and 2014. From 2007 to 2014, he was Research Assistant at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas (FORTH).
George's research has mainly focused on Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Machine Learning and Interpretability, as well as applications in Supply Chain Risk Management, Smart Homes, Service-oriented Computing and Cloud Computing. He has authored or co-authored more than 30 papers published in books, journals and conference and workshop proceedings and has participated in over 10 research projects at a national and international level as a researcher and co-PI. He has also acted as reviewer for over 30 conferences, workshops and journals.
George has taught and led a wide range modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in face-to-face and distance learning modes and has also led the development of new modules and courses in Artificial Intelligence. He has also supervised students in a wide range of projects for undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes.
