Biography

Dr. Guoyu Yu joined the University of Huddersfield in March 2016 as a Senior Research Fellow. He has a first degree in Optical Engineering from Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, China, and a Masters degree in Optics and a PhD in Fibre Bragg grating for microwave photonics and sensing from Aston University.

Dr. Yu first started his career in optics in 1990 after his first degree. His research interest gradually turned into fibre optics and after completing his PhD, he has worked at Nortel Networks on 40 gbs GaAs modulators as a Product R&D Engineer, at UCL on multimode waveguides for optical computing as a Research Fellow, and at the University of Teesside on cavity ring-down spectrometer.

In 2005 he moved to North Wales to work on processing large optics where he was employed by Glyndwr University as a Senior Research Lecturer until joining the University of Huddersfield in 2016.

Dr. Yu is a specialist in optical engineering. His research work in optics has been cited world wide and he has given invited talks in international conferences and research institutes. He is a member and reviewer of the Optical Society of America.
