Hali is an artist and academic from West Yorkshire currently working on the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions funded project Ecstatic Utopias: Reorienting Audiovisual Evocations of Place Towards a Relational Queer Future. He is currently based at the World Soundscape Project at Simon Fraser University. Before joining the University of Huddersfield full time, Hali worked as a technician across numerous visual and sonic arts courses at Leeds Arts University & York St. John University as well as a part time hourly paid lecturer in fine art & photography at York St. John and in computer composition at the University of Huddersfield.
Hali primarily works with digital sound and image, evoking memory and futurity through affective atmospheres. His art is characterised by its maximal layered, processed and abstracted use of recorded time. His most recent creative and theoretical works explore queer futurity, utopias, and the transcendent affect that arises from the temporal friction between still and moving sound and image.
