Biography
I'm a Research Fellow in music at the Leverhulme-funded Amplification Project (2025-30) led by Professor Steve Waksman.
My work currently looks at how low-frequency sound amplification became distinct and desirable, working provisionally toward cultural histories of the subwoofer and tactile loudspeaker technologies, as well as amplification in the sonic cultures of Pride and Carnival.
My thesis (University of Bristol, 2024) combined performance analysis with fieldwork to examine how DJs leverage vibration and discontinuity in the "bass culture" of dub-diasporic music, ultimately challenging dominant interpretations of EDM’s politics and aesthetics.
I have forthcoming publications in the Journal of Popular Music Studies and Performance Research; additional interests include music and/on the internet. I'm also a DJ and producer.
