James Peter Moffatt is an Award-Winning Composer, Musician, Record Producer, and Academic, who has scored numerous international films including BAFTA shortlisted and Student Oscar nominated ‘We Are Dancers’ and the multi-award-winning ‘House of Cardin’. His work has been broadcast and recognised by the BBC, Venice Film Festival, Rolling Stone Magazine, Vice and The Hollywood Reporter, collaborating with Academy-Award and BAFTA winning personnel. James is also the recipient of AHRC funding, pursuing a PhD in Film Music and Video-On-Demand Streaming Platforms at the University of Liverpool, and is a Senior Lecturer in Film Music at Leeds Conservatoire and a Lecturer in Composing for Screen at University of Huddersfield.

His research explores the contexts and practicalities of contemporary film scoring in the post-digital context. In particular, investigating how the emergence of online streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, and the digitisation and globalisation of film, and film music, production, distribution and consumption has changed the role and responsibilities of the composer for visual media and impacted the aesthetics of their creative output: music. His research comments more broadly on tensions surrounding platform capitalism, creative labour and the wider cultural industries, with key research interests as follows: Film and Music Industries, Creative Labour and the Cultural Industries, Digitisation, Technological, Practice-Led Research, Composition, Music Production.
