I am a Senior Lecturer specialising in Strategic Management and Comparative and International Business. I joined Huddersfield Business School in 2018 from Alliance Manchester Business School.
Research funds: Alongside obtaining my PhD from the University of Sheffield, I also worked on an ESRC-funded research project on Corporate Governance and Technological Innovation in China. Between 2017 and 2018, I was the principal investigator of an ESRC IAA project on direct investment and knowledge transfer from China to the UK (£26,000). I am currently a co-investigator of two National Social Science Foundation projects (£28,000 and £500,000).
My research focuses on, and contributes to theoretical and empirical understanding of the following areas:
1) Innovation and Technology Strategy;
2) Strategy in emerging and new Industries;
3) International business using comparative institutional approach;
4) Advanced qualitative methods/mixed methods.
I am referee for Research Policy, European Journal of Management, International Business Review, Industry and Innovation, and a regular presenter /discussant at several international research conferences, such as BAM, SASE, CEA and GLOBLICS.
My teaching has covered a wide range of subjects across all levels of higher education. Currently I focus on Strategic Management, International Business, and Comparative Human Resource Management. I am passionate about research-led teaching and inqury-based learning, and have published 3 teaching cases.
Consultancy: I have over 10 year's expereience in busienss and organistaional consultancy. I have worked with Fortune 500 firms in China, USA and the UK, such as Huawei (largest telecommunication company in the world), MG Rover (leading high-end Automotive firm), and Industrial Scientific (Device supplier to NASA's space projects). I also worked as a research consultant on the EU-funded 'Innovation Future' programme between 2009 and 2010, coaching innovation management for SMEs in the north of England. During my time at the University of Manchester, I mentored several start-ups, ranging from medical equipment to digital games, to online education.
