Biography

Jon Bush studied architecture at the University of Sheffield where he was also a sabbatical President of the Students’ Union (1967-68) and Director of the University Arts Festival (1968-69). Following Part 1 graduation, Jon was appointed as the full-time Director of Sheffield University Drama Studio (1970-73) and subsequently went on to become Press and Public Relations Officer at Nottingham Playhouse (1973-74). After completing his postgraduate studies in architecture at the University of Sheffield (1974-76) Jon was appointed as a Theatre Consultant with Theatre Techniques (1976-79). In 1979 Jon formed his first architectural partnership (Bush and Bone) which, in 1981, merged to become Bush Lake Rees (1981-91). Major projects completed by the practice included works for Alnwick Playhouse, Battersea Arts Centre, Chapter Arts Centre (Cardiff), Darlington Arts Centre, Hull Truck Theatre, Hull City Council, Sheffield City Hall and many commercial and industrial clients. Since 1991 Jon has been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield and at various times leader of the BA(Hons) Architecture, BA(Hons) Interior Design and Diploma in Architecture courses.
