Biography

José Santos is an Industrial Fellow at the Institute of Railway Research, University of Huddersfield, UK, with a MSc in Systems Engineering from University of Lisbon, Portugal from the thesis entitled “Computational Modelling of Train Braking System”. He is currently developing a PhD thesis entitled "Development of Methodologies for Pantograph-Catenary Testing, Modelling and Real-Time Dynamic Analysis". José Santos has been involved in Research and Development (R&D) activities involving railway traction and braking under low adhesion, control engineering, pantograph-catenary interaction, light rail, experimental, tribology and electrical testing of pantograph components. He has participated in several national and international projects in close collaboration with leading international research centres and key industry players, including "Validation of LABRADOR – Low Adhesion Braking Dynamic", "POB - iBB Intelligent Blended Braking Approach", “Squat initiation under braking: control, thermal and metallurgical analysis”, “Tram-Train Business Case & Policy Agenda”, "Preparation of UKRRIN High-Speed pantograph rig”, “TransPennine Route Upgrade pantograph-catenary studies” and “Syndey Metro pantograph-catenary studies”. José Santos is author of 9 papers in scientific journals and international conferences.
