I have successfully supervised 39 PhD students, 3 Phils and 4 MAs by Research. I have externally examined 21 PhD students , 6. MPhils and an MA by Research student. I have acted as internal examiner to 16 PhD students.I have also been Independent Chair in 5 recent PhDs.

Research Expertise and Interests

I study and research into nineteenth century and twentieth century British history, focussing upon British Labour history, the history of the Communist Party, the Independent Labour Party, the Labour Party and other similar organisations. I have also researched and written on the hiistroy of policing in Britain, gambling, lesiure and sports. Much of my research deals with the years 1900 to 1950. I have published about 50 books and about 100 articles and chapters on this subject as well. I am willing to supervise students on any of these topics and have successfuly supervised 40 PhD students and externally examined 22 PhD students and many MA and M. Phil students.
