Biography

Dr Leanne Monchuk is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Policing within the School of Human and Health Sciences. Dr Monchuk's research interests include: environmental criminology, crime prevention, policing, policy analysis and evaluation and qualitative and participatory research methods. 

In 2016, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) for her thesis entitled ‘Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED): Investigating its application and delivery in England and Wales’.

Leanne has co-edited two special edition journals: ‘International Perspectives on Planning for Crime Prevention’ (Built Environment Journal) and ‘Designing out Crime: Voices from the Fields’ (Safer Communities journal).

In 2016 and 2017, Leanne was awarded funding from the ESRC to take part in their Festival of Social Science. The two events aimed to educate, engage and empower young people about the importance of crime prevention. Leanne is a member of the University’s Concordat for Research Careers and Engagement Oversight Group (2015 - present), the School's Research and Enterprise Committee (2016 - present) and the University's Secure Societies Institute (SSI).
