Biography

As Director of Recruitment for the School of Arts & Humanities, an important aspect of my professional practice is supporting the development of a diverse and inclusive academic environment that fosters a dynamic and creative educational experience for an international student population. This commitment to inclusivity informs both my research and pedagogical interests.

My research operates across two overlapping areas. Primarily, I am interested in the discursive possibilities of photographic practice and its capacity to generate debate as a vital function of democratic societies. I am particularly drawn to collaborative and multivocal approaches to photography, exploring how shared authorship and participatory strategies can open space for multiple perspectives and critical dialogue.

These research interests feed directly into my pedagogic philosophy for creative education. I am especially interested in speculative outcomes for photographic work and how this openness can be translated into teaching practice. Central to this approach is the creation of non‑judgemental learning environments within creative workshops, enabling students to discover, articulate, and develop their own capabilities. In pursuit of this, I have undertaken a number of collaborative research projects with academic colleagues to develop and test pedagogical methods that foster non‑judgemental and inclusive spaces within educational settings.

I was Principle Investigator on an AHRC funding project in collaboration with Kirklees Museums and Galleries to develop and run creative workshops that developed and ran an educational programme that utilized creative skills workshops to enable young people (12 to 16 year olds) to engage and respond to the collections and archives of the Kirklees Museums and Galleries. The purpose of the programme was to encourage young people to look to historicalprecedents and artifacts to help frame questions for their contemporary lives and discuss future aspirations.
