Biography

In 2012 Louise Coverdale became a part time lecturer for the primary team at the University and was a link tutor for BA and PGCE trainees. She was a full time student here and successfully gained her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Studies in September 2013. She joined the University in September 2014 and is a Senior Lecturer on the BA Early Primary Course and the PGCE Primary Course where she is responsible for the strategic lead of Newly Qualified Teachers. Louise is also a tutor for PE, Music and contributes to the Safeguarding Module for BA, PGCE and undergraduate trainees.

Prior to her academic career, Louise spent 20 years in primary teaching. She has taught from Year 1 to Year 6. Louise spent 10 years as a Special Educational Needs Co-coordinator and was subject leader for History. She acted as senior mentor for students on the Graduate Teacher Programme and was also a mentor for Newly Qualified Teachers. During this time Louise had the opportunity to carry out the roles of EYFS/ Key Stage One and Key Stage Two Leaders.

In 2004 Louise was appointed Deputy Headteacher and was subsequently Acting Headteacher on two separate occasions. In 2006 she became a substantive Headteacher, where she assumed the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
