Biography

I joined the University in 1998 and am currently Professor of Advanced Practice and Spirituality. I am also a National Teaching Fellow and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care. I have fulfilled many varied roles at the University.

  • My PhD was completed in 2016:  A Hermeneutic Enquiry into the spiritual dimensions of Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) consultations through the lens of availability and vulnerability. I have an active interest in Spirituality and am the founder and chair of the Spirituality and Compassion Special Interest Group. I am also an executive committee member of the International Network for the Study of Spirituality and Chair the Spirituality Scholars Network.
  • I have worked regional, nationallly and international on many research projects for example; job satisfaction of Advanced Practice Nurses, Diagnostic Reasoning Skills of Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Therapeutic Optimism in Mental Health, Perceptions of Spirituality, Advanced Practitioners Wellbeing and Resilience.
  • I Chair the University Advancing Practice Special Interest Group.
  • I work with projects to promote and develop Advanced Practice Nursing globally. 
  • I have a specialist interest in Women’s Health and have produced a training for Gynaecological History Taking and Examination Skills and online resource on Abnormal Uterine Bleeding.
  • I am a member of the Association of Advanced Practitioner Educators
  • In 2009 I was awarded the Queens Nurse title and I work closely with the QNI to promote the role of Advanced Practitioners in Primary Care.
  • I have a number of publications on Mental Health, Women’s Health, Advanced Practice, Spirituality and Education.
  • I am the International Council of Nurses Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Director of the Academy of Global Research and Enterprise.
  • I am a visiting Professor at Abo Akademi in Vassa, Finland.
