Dr Mi Tran is a Lecturer in Management (Strategy and International Business Subject Group) at the University of Huddersfield. She obtained both of her Masters (MSc International Business Management – Distinction and Best Student Award) and PhD degrees at the Huddersfield Business School, where she was awarded full-scholarships to undertake the courses. Mi’s PhD thesis examined the effect of Institutional Environment and Governance on Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure in the context of six Southeast Asian countries. Her PhD research project was honoured by the Huddersfield Association of Women Graduates in 2017.

Mi joined the Huddersfield Business School as an academic in 2018, having previously worked at the School as a part-time tutor and supervisor for master students. Prior to the commencement of her academic career, she worked with a number of NGOs on diverse social projects in Vietnam and UK. Mi currently supervises one PhD student and has teaching experience at bachelor and master levels.

Mi’s research interests focus on the areas of institutional influences, corporate governance and strategies.

Mi is presently working on the following research projects related to her main interests:

  • Firm-level governance of CSR
  • CSR Disclosure in Southeast Asian countries
  • Institutional Environment and CSR strategy

Mi would be interested in supervising PhDs focusing on the following areas:

  • The effect of governance structures on firms’ CSR performance from a multi-level perspective
  • Board gender diversity and its impact on firms’ disclosure practice
  • Mandatory reporting versus voluntary reporting in CSR
  • Institutional environment and multinational corporations’ strategies
