Biography
Qualifications and Teaching
Muhibul Haq, a former Chevening (an elite programme run by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom) Scholar and a management practitioner turned entrepreneurship academic, is a senior lecturer in the Huddersfield Business School, University of Huddersfield. Muhibul teaches a variety of entrepreneurship, strategy, and human resource management modules at postgraduate and undergraduate levels. He received PhD in Small Business Management from Bradford School of Management, University of Bradford and MSc in Project Planning and Management from Bradford Centre for International Development, University of Bradford. Muhibul holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCert in HE), and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).
Research interest
Muhibul’s research interests include sustainable success, competitive advantage, knowledge management, customer relationship management, strategic management, and strategic human resource management in the contexts of micro, small, and medium enterprises. He has published in several journals including Journal of Small Business Management, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, and International Journal of Management Development. He is a regular contributor to the annual conferences of Academy of Management (AOM), European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), European Academy of Management (ERUAM), and British Academy of Management (BAM).

Industry experience
Prior to becoming an academic, Muhibul worked in a variety of organisational and country contexts. His managerial experience includes working in the private sector in the United Kingdom as a Human Resource Manager for over 16 years. Besides, he worked for international development organisations such as The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
Funded research projects
- BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants scheme: Muhibul is currently commissioned as the sole (primary) investigator to “Conceptualizing Informality as a Source of Sustainable Success and Competitive Advantage in Regional Ethnic Minority Micro-businesses”. Value: £9,347.04 (ongoing). (Application accepted by the British Academy on 31/08/2020).
- COVID-19 Research: Muhibul is currently commissioned as the primary investigator to explore “How COVID-19 Crises has Impacted Ethnic Minority Micro-business Survivability and Success in West Yorkshire and What Lessons can be Learned?”. Value: £3,515.00 (ongoing). (Application accepted by the Huddersfield Business School 01/05/2020).
- Public engagement: Muhibul was commissioned to involve the wider public with regards to sharing findings from his recent COVID-19 related research Value: around £1,000.00 (ongoing). (Application accepted by the University of Huddersfield in November 2022). This was delivered in June/July 2023 in Kirklees under the title 'ENGAGEMENT WITH MICRO BUSINESSES AND THE COMMUNITIES THEY SERVE PROJECT' in partnership with a local charity/social enterprise called 'Give... a few words'.
- Huddersfield Business School Research Pump-Priming: I am commissioned as the secondary investigator to explain ‘How national culture affects private label brands performance’. Value: £2005. Data collection is underway. (Application accepted by The Huddersfield Business School in April 2021).
- European Management Academy (EURAM) funding: A colleague (Dr Tribi Budhathoki) and I have been granted a research grant of 4,100 Euros by EURAM on 15 May 2023. The Grant number is ‘48’ and Grant Title is ‘Crisis and Microbusiness Survival: Lessons Learned from COVID-19’.
