Biography

Dr Naila Anwar holds a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham and a Master’s degree in International and European Union Law from the University of Sheffield. She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and a Chartered Manager accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), bringing over a decade of experience in academic leadership within the UK Higher Education (HE) sector.

Dr Anwar joined the University of Huddersfield Law School in September 2020 as Subject Leader for Teaching and Learning. In this role, she has provided strategic academic leadership across all law programmes, with a particular focus on teaching and learning enhancement, pedagogical innovation, student experience, and graduate employability. She successfully led the department through a period of leadership transition in September 2022 and was subsequently appointed Acting Head of Law in July 2023.

Her educational philosophy is underpinned by a commitment to equity, access, and innovation in learning. A strong advocate for technology-enhanced learning, Dr Anwar has a particular interest in the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education. During her tenure as the first Head of Law at the University of Essex Online, she led the development and launch of several online law programmes, including a fully online LLB (Hons) Law degree that rapidly enrolled nearly 300 students. This experience reinforced her commitment to widening participation and improving access to legal education for diverse and non-traditional learners.

Dr Anwar’s current research focuses on the development of inclusive pedagogical frameworks that utilise educational technologies to create flexible, student-centred learning environments. Her work aims to support students from a wide range of social, cultural, and educational backgrounds to realise their academic potential and succeed in higher education.
