Biography

I am a Registered Nurse with a background in general Nursing and have Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK. I hold an adjunct position of Professor at the University of Colorado, Denver, USA and have previously held eHealth leadership roles at the UK Royal College of Nursing and the International Council of Nurses. I have published widely and am asked regularly to speak at conferences and seminars. I was for 10 years Editor-in-Chief of Informatics for Health and Social Care. I am the UK representative to the International Medical Informatics Association Nursing Informatics Working Group, a member of national and international standards bodies and think tanks, and I regularly provide advice to organisations such as the UK Department of Health on informatics issues. I am a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and was the recipient of the 2017 Virginia K. Saba Informatics Award.
