Biography

I am an accomplished senior health and social care systems leader, with over 30 years’ experience of applied research and innovation around the development, implementation, use and exploitation of electronic health record systems and standardised terminologies.

I am a Registered Nurse with a background in general Nursing, and have Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK.

I previously held senior academic roles as Professor, Associate Dean (Research & Innovation) and Dean, Digital Health leadership roles at the UK Royal College of Nursing and the International Council of Nurses, and was for 10 years Editor-in-Chief of Informatics for Health and Social Care. I was the recipient of the 2017 Virginia K. Saba Informatics Award.

I am currently Vice Chair (Working Groups) and Chair Elect of the International Medical Informatics Association Nursing Informatics Working Group, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the Chartered Management Institute, the American Academy of Nursing, and the American College of Medical Informatics.
